The Manukau Symphony Orchestra prides itself on commissioning and presenting New Zealand works through appointing Composers in Residence. We also regularly perform other New Zealand works.

The Composer in Residence for 2008-2009 is Anthony Ritchie. His works will be performed at the Genesis Energy Autumn Concert on 5&6 April 2008 and on 4&5 April 2009.

Manukau Symphony Orchestra is grateful to have received funding for a SOUNZ Community Commission in 2006. The composer is Robin Toan. Robin's Fanfare for Manukau for orchestra, commissioned and performed by the Manukau Symphony Orchestra, was performed at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre on 1 December 2007, with conductor Uwe Grodd.

Breathalyzer for orchestra was commissioned and performed by the Manukau Symphony Orchestra at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre on 23 September 2006 with conductor Uwe Grodd.

 Manukau Refrains for Three Percussionists and Orchestra, was commissioned and performed by the Manukau Symphony Orchestra, TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre, performances on 31 March and 1 April 2007, with conductor Uwe Grodd and percussion soloists Jenny Raven, Judy Stokes and Vadim Simongauz.

The Journey for massed choir and orchestra was commissioned for the opening of the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre, Manukau City, on 3 April 2005, and performed with with conductor Uwe Grodd.

            Ancient Rhythms for orchestra was commissioned and performed by the Manukau Symphony Orchestra at the TelstraClear Pacific Events Centre on 3 December 2005, with conductor Uwe Grodd.
